The superhero of house music but like all caped crusaders a man from another planet (NYC) Maurice Fulton has revived funk brilliance and rough edges on a scene that was sinking into the quick-sands of its sample library.
Well, life is Water for Gerbadaisies When they are Dancing indeed, and Fulton had to earn his super powers, red cape and panties when he first began spinning Hip Hop as Dj Scratch in his Baltimore hometown. There he luckily hung out with local Bruce Waynes of dance music The Basement Boys who introduced him to house and garage and definitely took him away from the petty feuds endlessly started by jokers at rap venues. A keyboard, Dj and programmer for the renowned conglomerate, Fulton contributed his own kryptonite touch to Ultra Nate's debut Blue Notes in the Basement, moved to NYC and began recording sporadically for UK imprints such as Pagan or Warp before becoming Jimi Tenor's sidekick accompanying the Finnish super cavalier on his quest for outstanding performances. This connection lead to Fulton's better known deeds : an amazing track record on respected UK imprints Nuphonic and Transfusion with two subsequent concept LPs Sotries of a Broken Heart and Recovering and Why Put me Through it?. This was performed alongside a stunning Bubble Tease release under the disguise of mythological arch villain Syclops. For reasons that are still unbeknownst to mere earthlings, Fulton's own bat-cave seems to be permanently moving all over the globe oscillating between the attraction poles of Sheffield, NYC and Melbourne. Well, next time, an evil menace looms on club-land, his deeds will at least be broadcasted on three different time zones! |
